My name is Sergio Orts and I am currently a Ph.D candidate at the Computer Technology Department of the University of Alicante. I received my BSc and MSc degrees from the same institution in 2010 and 2011 respectively. Some of my research interests include parallel computing on GPUs, image processing, computer vision and machine learning.
The main topic of my Phd is the design of a real-time surveillance system working on Graphics Processing Units (GPUs), with capabilities to identify and characterize anomalous behaviors in restricted environments by representing and interpreting the movement in support of preventive actions security systems. The high parallel processing power of GPUs allow parallel processing of information from multiple cameras. We are working on the design and acceleration of some image processing and 3D data processing algorithms: Feature extraction, analysis, characterization of behaviours and data fusion from multiple devices.
I'm interested in computer vision systems, parallel and high performance computing (especially on GPUs), visual surveillance systems, machine learning and 3D data processing algorithms among others. Currently we are using kinect devices to get 3D input data. We are processing this input data onto GPUs performing multi-GPU and multi-CPU processing.
Other research topics that i am interested are gestures recognition and behaviour characterization. We traditionally have used self-organising maps to characterize and classify behaviours.
Last years i have been using and teaching NVIDIA CUDA technology at the University of Alicante which has been selected as a CUDA Teaching Center during the academic year 2011/2012 for his commitment demonstrated in the advance of education of NVIDIA CUDA technology.
I am also interested in Java technology and agile methodologies. Currently im using Grails framework and Android technology to develop some personal projects.
