Short Biography

Prof. Piotr Porwik is currently Head of the Computer Systems Department at University of Silesia, Katowice, Poland. He works at the Institute of informatics and he is also a member of the faculty board.

Additionally, P. Porwik works as professor at Information and Medical College, Chorzow (Upper Silesia region), where is also a senate member.

He graduated in 1979 in computer sciences at University of Silesia, Katowice and received the PhD degree in computer sciences (1985) and the DSc (habilitation) in informatics (2006) all from AGH-University of Science and Technology, Krakow.

Prof. Porwik has graduated 80 students, has been promoter of the two PhD students and currently is a supervisor of the two next postgraduate students.

His research interests relate to applied spectral Boolean function analysis, biometrics and special kind of image processing came from crime scenes, with over 120 peer-reviewed papers and articles.

He published four books on digital electronics, informatics and signal processing. Hi is author or co-author of four books.

He is also the Editor-in-Chief of the Medical Informatics and Technologies Journal which is scored by Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education and is a member of the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Biometrics.

P. Porwik is appointed a reviewer in many international journals and conference papers.

He presented the five times invited papers, tutorials and keynotes in Japan, India, Czech Republic and Poland.

He takes part in many national and international conferences. In many cases independently organized many international conferences, and was invited as a chairman or member of scientific and organizing committees. P. Porwik organized also the special sessions devoted biometrics in international congresses.
