Short Biography

Dr. Kanwal Gagneja has 18 years of experience in cyber security, digital forensics, and computer networks. Dr. Gagneja is directing the development of digital forensics and cybersecurity coursework through a $45K grant received from the Florida Center for Cybersecurity.

Dr. Gagneja is inspired to teach the next generation of cybersecurity specialists in part because of the growing importance of protecting networks.

Dr. Gagneja’s awards include a copyright for her dissertation “Heuristic clustering with secured routing in two-tier sensor networks”. She is a lifelong member of Upsilon Pi Epsilon, the International Honor Society for the Computing and Information Disciplines. During her Master’s studies at Punjabi University, she was a medalist based of off merit. She served as global outreach ambassador for NDSU. She has won many grant awards over the years.

She is active in community service as well as. She has served as panelist for WICT-Women in Cable Telecommunications in 2016. WICT Florida celebrates contribution of women in Cable Telecommunications and she being the only female faculty member in computer science department so represented the Poly. She also served as panelist in Lady Ada Lovelace convention 2014. Ada Lovelace Day is an international celebration day of the achievements of women in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM). It aims to increase the profile of women in STEM and, in doing so, create new role models who will encourage more girls into STEM careers and support women already working in STEM. Science works of Ashland, Oregon and SOU came together to celebrate this day where STEM Dean of SOU nominated her to be the panelist to represent the computer science department as she was the only female faculty in computer science department at SOU.

She is also involved in the research and development of Autonomous vehicle and SunTrax project for Poly.  For this project FDOT and Florida Polytechnic University will construct a new, state-of-the-art transportation technology testing facility at Poly campus.

She is very active in research as well. She keeps collaborating with others for writing research papers and funding proposals. She is reviewer for many international universities for PhD dissertations and thesis. She is a TPC for dozens of conferences and reviewer for Journals. Her significant publications include “Enhanced routing in Heterogeneous Sensor Networks”; "Heuristic Clustering with Secured Routing in Heterogeneous Sensor Networks"; “Knowing the Ransomware and Building Defense Against it - Specific to HealthCare Institutes”; “Secure Communication Scheme for Wireless Sensor Networks to maintain Anonymity”; "Energy Efficient Approach with Integrated Key Management Scheme for Wireless Sensor Networks"; and "Pairwise Key Distribution Scheme for Two-Tier Sensor Networks”.

She is fun loving, decent, helping, and outdoor person.
