Short Biography

Mokhtar Beldjehem is Software Engineer, Educator, Researcher, Author, Consultant, Entrepreneur and Philanthropist. He holds B.Eng., M.Eng., and Ph.D. all in Computer Engineering, Computer Science and Software Engineering. He has been intimately involved in Software Engineering Research since 1985 and in Soft Computing Research since 1989. His current research interest is the interplay of Soft Computing and Software Engineering. He has over twenty years experience split between the Software Industry and Academia. He has been studying the problems of software development since 1988. By combining system construction, consultation, and academic research he has been able to develop principles and methods that are both of academic interest and applicable to real-world problems. He has coordinated several Canadian, European and International successful research projects and has published more than 60 scientific papers. He has chaired many national and international conferences and technical sessions in these areas and he is involved, as a steering committee member, in organization of several international Conferences, Member of Editorial Board and  Reviewer in several international journals, and serves(ed) on program committees of numerous conferences and workshops related to Soft Computing, Software Engineering and their interplay. He is currently in process of founding a "Software Engineering and Soft Computing" Research laboratory, which is equipped with the state of the art CASE tools, Workbenches, Environments and facilities for Model-driven Engineering and Reengineering Large Scale Software Systems and Complex Hybrid Cooperative Intelligent Soft Computing Systems. He uses  Open Source systems in teaching and research such as: Linux , OpenOffice, Moodle, Eclipse, NetBeans, Apache, MySQL, PostgreSQL, PHP, Perl, Python, Java, JUnit, Subversion , R, Joomla , Alfresco , Zimbra...and s.o. He is a proponent of  free open textbooks, free open source and free open standards.
