Short Biography

Shamim Khan earned his B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Applied Physics & Electronics from Rajshahi University, Bangladesh in 1977 and 1979 respectively, and his Ph.D. in Computation from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST), UK in 1984. His PhD research was on digital image processing using a multiprocessor computer system.

Dr. Khan has been teaching Computer Science for over twenty-six years, having taught at universities in Asia, Australia and the US. He is currently a Professor at the TSYS School of Computer Science at Columbus State University. Apart from digital image processing, his current research interests include the application of artificial intelligence techniques for knowledge representation and decision support, biometrics and Computer Science education. He has more than thirty-five publications in refereed journals and conference proceedings. Dr. Khan currently teaches courses in artificial intelligence, graphical user interfaces, software testing, and computer simulation. He has supervised undergraduate and graduate research in a variety of areas. He is a member of the ACM, IEEE Computer Society, ACM SIGCSE, AAAI and Phi Kappa Phi. He is also a member of the editorial board of the American Journal of Intelligent Systems.
