Short Biography

Educational Background

Associate Professor Dr. Chutisant Kerdvibulvech was born in 1983. He received B.Eng. (Honors) in Computer Engineering from Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand in 2005. He earned M.Sc.Eng. and Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from Keio University, Tokyo, Japan with a 3.94 GPA in 2007 and with a 4.00 GPA in 2009, respectively. Both universities are the oldest in their respective countries. He completed his Ph.D. defense when he was 25 years old, one of the youngest Ph.D. graduates of Keio University.

Professional Experience

In 2008-2009, he worked as a Researcher of CREST, the world’s first technology to display 3D contents into free space, at Japan's National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation in Tokyo. This research project was broadcast on NHK (Japan Broadcasting Corporation) TV Program in Japan and also on National Geographic TV Program throughout the world.

Between 2009 and 2014, he served as Department Head of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) at Rangsit University (International College), Thailand. In his ICT Department, he led students from over 15 different nationalities, including from USA, UK, Germany, Japan and China.

Since 2010, he has been invited as a guest lecturer, a dissertation committee, and a board of examiners for many universities in Thailand both public and private, such as Chulalongkorn University, National Institute of Development Administration, Mahidol University, King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi, Kasertsart University, Rangsit University, Stenden Rangsit University, Panyapiwat Institute of Management, and Sripatum University.

Between 2011 and 2012, he was a columnist for Manager 360° Magazine, a monthly magazine in Thailand. His column is named iTech 360°.

Since 2012, he has become an Assistant Professor at Rangsit University when he was 28 years old, making him one of the youngest Assistant Professors in Thailand's Educational System (Source from Thailand's Office of the Higher Education Commission). Also in 2012, he was an IT news analyst for Nation Channel TV Program, "Global IT" aired every week.

Since 2013, he has written an IT column for Dailynews Newspaper, the 2nd best-selling newspaper in Thailand with a circulation of 900,000 and a readership of 2.7 million, every Wednesday. Also in 2013, he was a technology news analyst for RSU TV Program, "Trendy Tech" aired every weekday.

Since 2015, he has moved to teach at the Thailand's prestigious public graduate university, National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA). NIDA alumni include prominent political, administrative and corporate leaders, such as Prime Minister of Thailand,  Deputy Prime Ministers and numerous Ministers. 

Since January 2018, he has become an Associate Professor (Information Technology) at NIDA when he was 34 years old, making him one of the youngest Associate Professors in Thailand's Educational System (Source from Thailand's Office of the Higher Education Commission). He is now teaching both Master's and Ph.D. programs at Graduate School of Communication Arts and Management Innovation.

Research

His research interest includes the fundamentals of computer vision and its application. Recently, he is focusing on applying computer vision technology to virtual reality and augmented reality. He is also interested in applying technology and innovation for media.

He has published many refereed international journal papers (ISI Thomson Reuters, Scopus and DBLP), and delivered his talks at various international conferences (IEEE, LNCS and ACM) in many places around the world. He has visited more than 50 countries on 6 of 7 continents on earth, except only Antarctica.

His talk in ACM/IEEE Virtual Reality International Conference (VRIC) was translated simultaneously from English into French. His research papers have been cited in different languages, including English, French, Japanese, Chinese, Portuguese and Thai.

Awards

During his nationwide university entrance examination, he was awared the Thailand's 2nd highest score among hundreds of thousands applicants in Physics. Throughout his graduate study between 2005 and 2009, he was awarded a full and unconditional scholarship from Keio University (Fujiwara Foundation). His research was also awarded the Keio Leading-edge Laboratory of Science and Technology. In 2007-2009, he was a Research Assistant of Global COE (Center of Excellence) Program in Japan. In 2008, he received the 2nd Best Presenter Award from International Workshop on Electronic & Information Engineering at Xian Jiaotong University, China. He received the 2010, 2012 and 2013 University Outstanding Teaching Awards which recognize faculty for excellence in teaching from the President of Rangsit University.

Associate Professor Dr. Chutisant Kerdvibulvech often appears in various kinds of media.

He has been interviewed to appear on Discovery Channel TV Program worldwide in the topic of augmented reality research. He is one of the first Thai scholars to be interviewed and broadcast on Discovery Channel TV Program which is seen in more than 431 million homes in 170 countries. The program has also been translated from English to Polish and Thai.

Also, he has been selected to be one of the 10 most promising PhD scholars around the world to appear in the book entitled “Secrets of Promising PhD Scholars Revealed” by Enzed Publishing House Ltd, New Zealand. The book consists of the 10 most promising PhD scholars from 10 different nationalities who excellently graduated from the world's reputable universities such as Harvard University, Cambridge University, and Stanford University.

In Thailand, he has been invited for interview on many TV Programs (such as Thai PBS, Nation Channel, TNN2, RSU TV, Rawangpai Channel, News1 and PPTV Thailand) and Radio Programs (such as Thailand 90.50 FM, 97.25 FM, 99.50 FM Live Radio, Thai PBS Radio, and Ruam Duay Chuay Kan Radio). He has also appeared on numerous newspaper and magazine articles, including Thairath, Matichon, Dailynews, Manager Daily, Khaosod, Prachachat Business, Komchadluek, Ban Muang and Sakulthai. He has also been invited as a guest plenary speaker at several events relating to topic of education and technology in Thailand. He speaks Thai, English and Japanese.

Committee Activities

Associate Professor Dr. Chutisant Kerdvibulvech has served as a committee for many academic conferences and journals.

In 2008, he served as an Organization Committee Member for ICAT, the world’s oldest international conference on virtual reality and telexistence. In 2009, he served as a Program Committee Member and a Reviewer for ACCV (Asian Conference on Computer Vision) Workshop on VCAS. Since 2010, he has served as a Reviewer for ICOS (IEEE Conference on Open Systems). In 2011, he was an Academic Committee for TJIA (Thailand-Japan International Academic Conference) held at University of Tokyo, and has served it ever since. Also in 2011, he served as a Reviewer for IEEE-ISAS (International Symposium on Access Spaces). Between 2012 and 2015, he served as a Technical Program Committee Member for IJCNN (IEEE-INNS International Joint Conference on Neural Networks), organized by the International Neural Network Society. Also between 2013 and 2014, he served as an Academic Committee for NCIT (National Conference on Information Technology).

In addition, he is on the Review Board of various leading international journals, including EURASIP Journal on Advances in Signal Processing (Springer) and EURASIP Journal on Embedded Systems (Springer), and peer-reviewed journals in Thailand, such as Engineering Journal (EJ) from Chulalongkorn University, TIJSAT from Thammasat University, and IJAST from King Mongkut's University of Technology North Bangkok. He is now a Committee Member for ACM SIGGRAPH (Bangkok). He is a member of IEEE Computer Society.
