Dr. (Mrs) Jaya Sil is attached with the Department of Computer Science and Technology in the Bengal engineering and Science University, Shibpur (formerly known as B.E. College), Howrah as a Professor since 2003.   She passed out BE in Electronics and Tele Communication Engg from B.E. College under Calcutta University and ME (Tele) from Jadavpur University, Kolkata on 1984 and 1986 respectively. Prof. Jaya Sil has obtained her Ph.D (Engg) degree from Jadavpur University, Kolkata with specialization in Computer Science and Engineering on 1996.  She started her teaching career from B.E. College, Howrah in the department of Computer Science and Technology as a lecturer on 1987 and then joined on 1999 in Calcutta University as a Reader in the department of Computer Science and Engineering.   

Prof. Sil teaches Under Graduate and Post Graduate courses in the University and doing collaborative research with other departments and schools in her University and other Universities. Eight students are registered in Ph.D. programme under her supervision in different areas like Image Processing, Bioinformatics, Machine Learning and Data Mining. Three students are already received their doctoral programme under her able supervision and two more will submit their theses by November 2012. She guided ME and BE projects as well.

Prof. Sil has completed sponsored projects of AICTE, India and presently executing one project submitted to UGC, India in collaboration with Jadavpur University, Kolkata. She received Postdoctoral Fellowship from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore and worked in High Performance Computing centre in 2002-2003. Prof. Sil visited Bioinformatics Lab in Husar, Heidelberg, Germany for collaborative research under TEQIP grant. She received best paper award from Institute of Engineers (I). INSA Senior scientist fellowship has been awarded to her and would visit Poland in May 2012 for 3 weeks only.

She has written a book on “ROUGH SET AND STATISTICAL APPROACH TO KNOWLEDGE DISCOVERY” as a co-author, published from VDM Verlag, ISBN 978-3-639-34766-1, 2011. A book chapter on “Watermarking” will be published soon by Intech, ISBN 979-953-307-583-8.  Prof. Sil has published more than 25 papers in peer reviewed reputed Journals and more than 100 International conference papers.  She acted as guest Editor in the journal of Inderscience Publication and reviewed papers of IEEE Transactions and Elsevier Science.
