Short Biography
Son Kuswadi born in Pamekasan, Indonesia 1962. He receive Sarjana Teknik (B.Eng.) degree in control engineering from Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) Surabaya (1986). His Dr.Eng. degree in robotics was received from Tokyo Institute of Technology, Tokyo Japan in 2003.

Dr. Son Kuswadi is senior lecturer in the field of control engineering and robotics at Electronic Engineering Polytechnics Institute of Surabaya (EEPIS) since 1988. He was post-doctoral fellow and then assistant professor in Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology, Tokyo Japan from 2003-2005. Currently as Robotics and Automation Based on Biologically-Inspired Technology (RABBIT) Research Group Leader at EEPIS. In government, he was Secretary for Minister of Communication and Information Technology (2008-2009) and then as Special Advisor to The Minister of National Education (2009-present).

He actively involved in scientific societies such as Indonesian Soceity for Electrical Electronic Communication and Information (IECI) and co-founder of Indonesian Society for Soft Computing (SC-INA) since 2002 (SC-INA is institutional member of International Fuzzy System Association (IFSA) since 2009). He was Technical program chair and reviewers several national and international conferences. He was member of IEEE Control Society, Robotics Society Japan and Young Researcher Committee of The World Federation on Soft Computing. He will lead SC-INA to be host of of World Congress of IFSA 2011 in Surabaya as General Chairman.

His current works including SAR Robot development especially for earthquake and tsunami disaster fields, supported by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in collaboration with Prof. Mitsuji Sampei of Tokyo Institute of Technology.
