Short Biography
Longbing Cao is an Associate Professor of Information Technology at the University of Technology Sydney, the Director of Data Sciences & Knowledge Discovery Lab, and the Data Mining Research Leader of Australian Capital Markets Cooperative Research Centre. His research interests include data mining and knowledge discovery, behavior informatics, multi-agent technology, agents and data mining integration, market surveillance, open complex systems, and metasynthesis engineering. He has published over 100 papers, (co-) authored 4 books, and edited 5 books.

Dr. Cao is editorial board members and guest editors of several journals. He served as steering committee members, program co-chairs, organizing co-chairs and program members of over 40 conferences and workshops. He founded special interest groups on Agents and Data Mining Interaction and Integration, Behavior Informatics, and Smart Market Surveillance. In recent years, he has led over 10 large grants and projects with a total of budget over AUD$4M, funded by Australian Research Council, Australian Cooperative Research Centre, and government/industrial partners. He also leads many real-world large projects of utilizing advanced IT technologies in areas such as telecommunication, capital markets, government services, social security, health insurance, and e-commerce in both Australia and China. He was Chief Technology Officer leading business intelligence research and development before joined in UTS. He is a Senior Member of IEEE, both Computer Society and SMC Society.
