Short Biography
Maria do Carmo Nicoletti holds an undergrad in Mathematics (UNESP,1973), a master in Computer Science (ICMSC-USP,1977), a M.Sc by research in Computer Science (Oxford University, 1980) and a Ph.D. in Computational Physics (IFSC-USP, 1994). She did her post-doctorate studies in Artificial Intelligence at the UNSW, Sydney, Australia (1998-2000). During 1981-1988 she worked as a software analyst in tasks related to software development, analysis and evaluation of programs and systems, as well as in developing, implementing and implanting logical security in computational systems. Since 1988 she has worked at the CS Department of Universidade Federal de S. Carlos (UFSCar), S. Carlos, SP, Brazil and currently is an associate professor in charge of undergrad and graduate courses in CS. Her main area of research is Artificial Intelligence, with an emphasis on methods and techniques related to machine learning and knowledge representation. She is also interested in the use of intelligent computational techniques for controlling biochemical systems as well as for modeling biomolecular processes.
