Short Biography
Prof. Alexander Gelbukh received his MSc degree (mathematics, with honors) from the Moscow Lomonosov State University, Russia, in 1990, and his PhD degree (computer science) from the All-Russian Institute for Scientific and Technical Information in 1995. He is a Research Professor and the Head of the Natural Language and Text Processing Laboratory of the Center for Computing Research of the National Polytechnic Institute, Mexico, since 1997, and invited professor of the National University of Colombia and of the University of Central Europe, Slovakia. He is academician of the Mexican Academy of Sciences since 2000 and a National Researcher of Mexico (member of SNI) since 1998, currently with excellence level 2. He is the Secretary of the Mexican Society for Artificial Intelligence.

Prof. Gelbukh's main areas of interest include computational linguistics and artificial intelligence. He is the author, co-author, or editor of more than 370 scientific publications, co-author of three books. He has been advisor of 12 PhD dissertations defended in Mexico, Finland, South Korea, and Colombia. He was the principal investigator of several projects funded by the Mexican Government, or internationally funded, in the field of computational linguistics and information retrieval. He is a member of editorial board or reviewer for a number of international journals on computer science and artificial intelligence.

Prof. Gelbukh is the founder and chair of the CICLing series of international conferences on computational linguistics and intelligent text processing. He has been Program Committee member of about 100 international conferences and Chair, Honorary Chair, or Program Committee Chair of more than 20 international conferences; in particular, he has been four times Program Committee Co-chair of the Mexican International Conference on Artificial Intelligence, MICAI. He was also Distinguished Lecturer for the ACM program for Mexico and Central America.
