| Short Biography |
| Epaminondas is born in Athens where he studied Statistics and Informatics at the University (Iconomicon Panepistimion) of Athens. Subsequently, he received his M.Sc. degree at the Technical University of Karlsruhe, Germany, Faculty of Computer Science, Institute for Program Structures and Data Organisation, while focusing on the development of Information Systems and Database Technologies. He received his Ph.D. degree at the Institute of Information Systems, Department of Computer Science, ETH-Zurich, Switzerland, where he designed and contributed in the implementation of an ontology driven, high level query language (MDDQL) In addition, he designed and contributed in the implementation of various other ontology driven human computer interaction mechanisms as well as classification mechanisms in medical application domains. He is currently holding a position as a Senior Lecturer at the School of Computer Science, University of Westminster, London, UK. He has been General Chair of the NLDB 2008 conference. His current research interest focuses on the development of practical and scalable systems, natural language based query languages, computational linguistics, cross-lingual information retrieval, Web collaborative systems and ontology engineering, Social Web and Web 2.0 technologies, methodologies and metrics in software design and engineering, Collective Intelligence, Digital Ecosystems, Nature Inspired Computing. Epaminondas has published in well-established Journals, e.g., Data and Knowledge Engineering. He is guest editor of a special issue on Collective Intelligence, Information Sciences Journal, as well as editorial board member of the International Journal on Technology and Human Interaction. He is also serving as a PC member and reviewer on ESWC 2009, ICOODB 2009, NLDB 2009 conferences, as well as a regular reviewer on the Journals Data and Knowledge Engineering, Web Engineering, Cooperative Information Systems. He is also a member of ACM. |
