Karthigayan had received his Bachelor Degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) from Periyar University, India, his Master Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) from Universiti Malaysia Sabah and earned his PhD in Mechatronics Engineering from Universiti Malaysia Perlis.

Karthigayan is a director for Centre for Foundation and Language Studies and Assistant Professor who had been attached with universities and Companies in his career. As a director, has responsible for generating revenue for the said department and involved in managing the department members. He is also a senior management member and also senate member who also involved in the decision making of the university policies. With his vast academic and industrial experience, he acquired the CEng (Chartered Engineer) title and also IntPE (International Professional Engineer) from Engineering Council UK.  During his career at Intel and MIMOS, he engage himself in many extensive research initiatives and consultancies in many vital areas such as Artificial Intelligence (across all application domains), Human Computer Interaction, Semantic Technology, embedded system, digital design (FPGA), Image processing, Industrial Vision, IT Software Development and also for IC testing (hardware & Software - design till implementation). Karthigayan is Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certified and had earned good experience in using Lean Six Sigma in improving the process in efficient way and also TRIZ for the innovation in INTEL and MIMOS.  During his industrial experience, Karthigayan submitted a commendable research proposal on Human Computer Interaction that had been accepted. He has published/co-authored more than 50 Research papers that include Book Chapters, Journals and International conferences. He has been accepted as panel member for Malaysian Quality Agency and external examiner for university. He has been part of reviewing committees and organizing committee for many International conferences and Journals and serving as an Editor for International Journal naming Information system and as secretary for IEEE SMC society (Malaysia). He is a senior member of IEEE (System, Man and Cybernetics Society- SMC Society), Member of Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), Institute of Engineers Malaysia (IEM), Member of International Association of Engineers (MIAENG) & Life Member of MYTRIZ (Malaysia).
