Short Biography
Manuel Gra a Romay received the M.Sc. degree in Computer Science in 1982 and the Ph.D. degree in Computer Sciences in 1989, both from Universidad del Pais Vasco, Spain .

His current position is Full Profesor (Catedratico de Universidad) in the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Department of the Universidad del Pais Vasco, in San Sebastian. He is the head of the Computational Intelligence Group (Grupo de Inteligencia Computational) which has been awarded funding as a high performance university research group since the year 2001.

Current research interests are in applications of Computational Intelligence to multicomponent robotic systems, specifically Linked Multicomponent Robotic Systems, medical image in the neurosciences, multimodal human computer interaction, remote sensing image processing, content based image retrieval, Lattice Computing, semantic modelling, data processing, classification and data mining.

Until 2010 he has coauthored more than seventy journal papers, over two hundred conference papers. He has coedited ten books on computational intelligence issues. He is member of the editorial board of the Journal on Mathematical Imaging and Vision, and he has acted as Program Committee for over fifty international conferences on Artificial Neural Networks, Image Processing and Computational Intelligence. He has edited special issues on journals such as Neurocomputing, Logic Journal of the IGPL, Journal of Mathematical Imaging and Vision, Information Fusion, Information Sciences. He has accomplished over twenty research projects with public competitive funding. Currently, former Ph. D. students from the research group have started two spin-off based on research results. The group has successfully organized two international conferences.
