Short Biography

Prof. Debajyoti Mukhopadhyay is the Dean of School of Engineering & Applied Science at Bennett University, Greater Noida, India. He was DirectorDean (R&D) and Professor & Head of Computer Engineering at NHITM, Mumbai University (2018-2020). He was the Dean & Distinguished Professor at Adamas University Calcutta during 2017-2018. During 2011-2017 for over 6 years, he was the Dean (R&D) of MIT Group of Institutions and Head of IT at Maharashtra Institute of Technology Pune, India. He had assumed the position of the Director of Balaji Institute of Telecom & Management earlier. He is the Founder Director of the Web Intelligence & Distributed Computing Research Lab (WIDiCoReL). During 2008-2010 for almost three years, he was the founding Head and Professor of Information Technology & MIS at Calcutta Business School.

Prof. Mukhopadhyay was a Visiting Scholar at George Mason University, Virginia, USA; is a Distinguished Adjunct Professor at Curtin University, Perth, Australia. He also holds Adjunct Professorship at UGSM-Monarch Business School, Switzerland, and Thapar University, Patiala, India. He had worked earlier as a full Professor of Computer Science & Engineering at the West Bengal University of Technology affiliated Engineering Colleges during 2001-2008. He was a Visiting Professor in the Division of Electronics & Information Engineering at Chonbuk National University in the Republic of Korea (2006-2007). He also taught at Stevens Institute of TechnologyNew Jersey,USA (1982-1984) and at Bengal Engineering College affiliated to Calcutta University, West Bengal (1980-1981). He worked as a Research Fellow at Indian Statistical Institute, Calcutta (1979-1980).

Prof. Mukhopadhyay has over 35 years of work experience: 16 years of teaching experience in academics, 18 years in research (over lapping), and 19 years in IT industry. He has guided research scholars towards Ph.D. in Computer Science degrees.

During 1982-1994 and in 1999, he was in the USA. He had worked at Bell Communications Research, New Jersey, USA in its Computing Systems and Architecture Lab. Prof. Mukhopadhyay had also held the positions of President & CEO of Data-Core (India) Limited of Kuljian Corporation (USA) & DCPL (India), Technical Director of M.N. Dastur & Co Ltd, Director of SriSoft Corporation (Los Angeles), Dy GM of TIL Limited, and Senior Consultant of Tata Consultancy Services.

His research areas are in: E-Business, Web Search Engines, Web Mining, Web-Page Prediction Models, Agent Technology, Middleware functions of the Distributed Systems, Interoperability among Large Heterogeneous Systems, and Data Engineering. He has authored over 200 articles in international refereed journals, conference proceedings and as research reports published in places such as: Information Systems Journal (UK), ACM SIGIR (USA),Computer Science and Informatics Journal (India), ACM SIGMOD Record (USA),Intelligent Information and Database Systems Journal (UK), Journal of Convergence Information Technology (Korea), Computer Communications Journal (UK), Springer-Verlag Lecture Notes in Computer Science (Germany), IEEE Computer Society Digital Library (USA), Information Systems Management Journal (USA), and several other journals. He has been serving on several Program Committees of International Conferences across the world and is on the Editorial Board of six international journals: International Journal of Intelligent Information and Database Systems (UK), International Journal of Digital Content Technology and its Applications (Korea), International Journal of Knowledge & Web Intelligence (UK), International Journal of Advances in Artificial Intelligence (USA), International Journal of Computers and Applications (Canada), and International Journal of Convergence Information Technology (Korea). He was the Program Chair of the International Symposium on Information Technology Convergence – ISITC2007, Korea and a member of the Organizing Committee of the 2007 IEEE/WIC/ACM International Conference on Web Intelligence WI2007, USA. He has been invited to deliver talks in major universities and R&D organizations in the USA, Sweden,Korea, and India.

Prof. Mukhopadhyay holds a B.E. (Electronics) from Calcutta University (India), a D.C.S. (Computer Science & Applications) from The Queen's University of Belfast (UK), an M.S. (Computer Science) from Stevens Institute of Technology (USA), and a Ph.D. (Computer Science) from Jadavpur University (India). He is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers (India) and of the Institution of Electronics & Telecommunications Engineers (India); a Senior Member of: the IEEE (USA), ACM (USA), and Computer Society of India; Member of All India Management Association. He is cited in the Who’s Who in the World. Prof. Mukhopadhyay was awarded the National Scholarshipby the Government of India, G.P. Ghosh Scholarship by Calcutta University, Graduate Assistantship by Stevens Institute of Technology, USA, and Peer Award by Bell Communications Research, New Jersey, USA.

For his outstanding performance in Higher Secondary Examinations, Sodepur High School offered him K.N. Memorial Award. MAEER's Maharashtra Institute of Technology bestowed upon him the Ideal Teacher Award to recognize his valuable contributions to the MIT Group of Institutions, Maharashtra, India. Prof. Mukhopadhyay was conferred upon the National Education Leadership Award for Best Professor in Information Technology by Stars of the Industry Group and Dainik Bhaskar. Cognizant Technology Solutions bestowed upon him the Cognizant Best Faculty Award for Outstanding Performance.

In 2015, Computer Society of India selected him as a Distinguished Speaker.
