Short Biography


Sarat Maharana received his B.E.degree with honors in the year 1991 in Mechanical Engineering from Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology (IGIT), Sarang (An Autonomous Institute of Govt. of Odisha ) and later he received his M.Tech and Ph.D degrees from the department of Aerospace Engineering, IIT, Kharagpur, West Bengal, India.

Currently he is the Dean (Research & Development) and head of the department of Aeronautical Engineering, Acharya Institute of Technology, Bangalore, Karnataka.

He worked as a faculty member in the department of mechanical engineering in Indira Gandhi Institute of Tech, Govt. of Odisha for little over five years. Then he worked as a Centre of Excellence Manager in GE’s John F Welch Technology Centre (JFWTC) in the areas of propulsion, computational fluid dynamics, engineering tools development, energy, infrastructure and GE’s aircraft engines programs close to six years. He has worked in GE Aircraft Engine facility in Ohio, USA and GE Global Research Centre in Schenectady in Albany State in the USA. As a senior project manager he worked in Infosys Technologies (India, Toronto) for the manufacturing business for three years. He served as a Dean (academics) in BRMIIT under Biju Pattnaik University of Technology (BPUT), Govt. of Odisha for a brief period in the academic year 2009-10. Then he joined MVJ College of Engineering, Bangalore as a professor and head of post graduate department in aeronautical engineering. Professor Maharana has guided around two dozens of M.Tech dissertations, close to thirty BE projects and is currently guiding eight  doctoral students. 

He is a recipient of National Rural Talent Search scholarship, GATE scholarship and Institute scholarship to do PhD in IIT, Kharagpur.

He is a life member of Indian Society of Technical Education (ISTE) and Indian Society for Wind Engineering (ISWE). He has contributed as a principal investigator for sponsored research project. He has published thirty research papers in both international and national journals and conferences. He has been the editor of Journal of Engineering, Technology Management (JEST-M, ISSN 2277-5161).  He has contributed a chapter to the book “Cloud Computing Advancements in Design, Implementation and Technologies” (IGI Publisher, USA) and is a coauthor of the book “ Micro Aerial Vehicle”( LAP Lambert Academic Publishing).His biography is included in Marquis Who’s Who in America 2010. He is a recipient of GE service award and Infosys award.

Research and Teaching interest are : Computational Fluid Dynamics, Cloud Computing , Computational Wind Engineering, Heat Transfer, Propulsion, Simulations, Numerical Methods.
