Short Biography
Amitava Chatterjee received the B.E., M.E., and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, India, in 1991, 1994, and 2002, respectively. In 1997, he joined the Department of Electrical Engineering, Jadavpur University, where he is currently an Associate Professor. In 2003, he received the Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho) Scholarship and visited Saga University, Saga, Japan. From November 2004 to November 2005, he was with the University of Electro-Communications, Tokyo, Japan, on a Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Post-Doctoral Fellowship for Foreign Researchers. In March–May, 2004, and in May–June, 2009, he visited University of Paris XII, Val de Marne, France, as an Enseignant-Invité (Invited Teacher). He has authored/coauthored 127 technical articles, including 19 papers in IEEE transactions, 38 papers in Elsevier journals and 4 papers in Springer journals. He has co-authored a book titled Vision Based Autonomous Robot Navigation: Algorithms and Implementations and co-edited two books titled Computational Intelligence in Image Processing and Advances in Heuristic Signal Processing and Applications, all published by Springer-Verlag, Germany. He presently serves as an Editor of IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology and Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence Journal (Elsevier) and as an Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement, IEEE Sensors Journal, and Control Engineering Practice Journal (Elsevier). He is a member of the Technical Committee on “Imaging Measurements and Systems” of IEEE Instrumentation & Measurement Society, USA. He has served/is serving as a regional program chair, as a technical program co-director, as a track chair or as a member of several international conference committees, including several flagship IEEE conferences. He is a senior member of the IEEE. His research interests include fuzzy based nonlinear control, intelligent instrumentation, computer vision, robotics, image processing and pattern recognition, signal processing, and stochastic optimization techniques.
